Christmas Traditions

Originally posted December 21st, 2008.

Can we call them traditions? We've only been married over two Christmases, but these are some of the things that make it feel like Christmas to me.I have always loved the idea of an advent calendar, and a nativity is also very important to me. Last year, we were excited to find both of them combined in this. Every day we add one of the Fontanini cut-outs.
This comes from Jason's side of the family. I am slightly allergic to nuts, so I don't really care for this, but in his family, pecan pie is a holiday favorite, so I baked one the other day.
This is a new tradition. Jason's family makes classic Chex Mix every year. Although I like the classic, my favorite is the turtle Chex Mix that you can get in the store. I noticed this recipe for Caramel Crunch Chex Mix and decided to try it out with leftovers from Jason's mix. Since I didn't have quite enough Chex cereal, I added some Cookie Crisp and some Captain Crunch. I also added a small handful of chocolate chips, since I didn't have chocolate Chex, and some kettle corn. It was really yummy. Try it out!

A tradition from my side of the family is making sugar cookies. I made a bunch of them. Jason thought my Christmas trees were too plain, so he came up with this. Isn't it cute? Unfortunately, neither he nor I have the patience to do this with all of my Christmas tree cookies.
Pinwheels, stockings, Christmas trees, and triangles filled this platter.
This tray was filled with more Christmas trees, triangles, and "tie-dyed" candy canes. Hopefully my family will help me get rid of all of these when we celebrate on Christmas Eve.
