Valentine's Day

Since Jason made a meal for me earlier this week, and took me out at the end of last week, I was responsible (and happily so) for Valentine's dinner. I spent the afternoon in the kitchen, and this is what we ended up with.Jason's place setting, complete with placecard and frosted goblet.

The entire table. The roses added a bunch to the decor, plus they smelled nice.

I set up a buffet on our island. Don't look behind the island at my messy counter! On the menu was:

Pickle Roll-Ups
Broccoli-Bacon Salad
Filet Mignon
Baked Potatoes (with toppings, of course)
Steamed Carrots
Dessert

These were what I made for dessert. They are a Ukrainian dessert called simply, "Nuts." They are very time consuming to make, but well worth the effort. I would post the recipe, but it wouldn't do you much good unless you have the iron mold that you use to shape each cookie. They are filled with sweetened condensed milk that has been boiled in the can for 3 hours. (edit)

I bought Jason a card, a pack of socks (per his request) an ipod (check out this site to see how I made it!), and a framed Scherenshnitte papercutting (my first ever, so I am not posting pictures.)
He got me the dvd of Fireproof!
We both had fun spending a special evening together.

  1. What a pretty Table and buffet. The Ukrainian nuts look yummy ~ do they have a filling? Kind of looks like it in the picture. Very cute iPod!

    Have a good up-coming week.
