Two days off, but no time off!

I had Wednesday and Thursday of this last week off. I planned on relaxing on Wednesday and doing some lesson plans and other major planning for school. On Thursday I was planning on picking my sister, Charity, up from the airport in Newark. I slept in Wednesday morning, and when I got up I moseyed around getting breakfast and checking my email. While I was checking my email, the phone rang. When I answered, I was surprised to hear my dad. He was calling to make sure that I was going to pick Charity up that afternoon. I was surprised since she had told me several times that her flight was coming in on the 2nd of August. I looked her flight up online, and sure enough, it was the 1st, not the second. So I hurriedly got ready and went to Newark. We got back about 1:30 am, and I went to bed shortly thereafter. I thought that I would just switch and do my planning and stuff on Thursday.
Thursday morning, I woke up and heard water running. I went in our storage room, and this is what I saw. . . Our upstairs neighbors had overflowed their bathtub. The floor was soaked, as were all the clothes in our two closets directly under the leaks and all the things we had stored in cardboard boxes in this room. We vacuumed about 6 gallons of water out of the carpet, and all of our clothes were dripping wet. We quickly called the landlord, who showed up and fussed at the neighbors. We tried to get everything out of the room, and then spent the rest of the day cleaning and washing all the clothes we own. One of the things that really made me sad was that I had stored a couple of study Bibles and my journals (that I have been keeping since I was about eight) in a box at the floor of the closet. They were ruined. Also, my college papers that I kept for future reference were all a soggy ruined mess also. Those are irreplaceable. Our landlord is paying for damages, thankfully, but we have to deal with the smell of wet tiles until they eventually dry out. I am burning lots of candles and keeping a fan on at all times. Needless to say, I didn't get much planning done on Thursday. So much for two days off! Oh well. I'm sure that there is a positive side to the situation. We did end up packing everything in that room, so that when we move in a couple of weeks, it will already be done. Also, Jason took me out for lunch while we were waiting on our laundry in the laundromat. That was nice too.

The evacuation mid-process. What a mess!

A soggy set of expensive stationary that my brother Andy bought for me. I use it on very special occasions, and was sad to see it ruined, too.
